Single Figures Must Mean It’s Winter…

8.6ºC !  Yes, you read that correctly, EIGHT POINT SIX DEGREES CENTIGRADE!  We were down to single figures at Harthill Reservoir near Sheffield today as our intrepid endurance athletes stepped into the water for week 3 of Yorkshire Outdoor Swimmers Winter Swim Club.

It was such a thrill to see 11 swimmers overcome the cold temperatures and swim around Harthill’s short-course, supported as ever by the YOS safety team, both on the water and lake-side. A huge thanks to the team of volunteers that support these swims – we couldn’t do them without you!

The scenery was fantastic this afternoon – and the team swam into a glorious sunset that somehow (nearly) made us forget about the sold temperature!

This was the first REAL winter swim for most of our swimmers (and swim in water under 10ºC is a major achievement!) – and so all our Winter Swimmers should be extremely proud of themselves!  Today’s swim was no mean feat – and puts them well on the way in their training for future IceKs* and potential Ice Miles*.

We are running Winter Swim sessions at Harthill throughout the winter period.  Each swim session is fully coached and swimmers are supported throughout a briefing, swim and warm-up session in the clubhouse.  If you would like more information about joining our swims click here

*IceK and ICE MILE events are extreme endurance undertakings and not to be taken lightly of without the full and proper training and support.  Swimyourswim does not endorse anyone undertaking or attempting these swims without first seeking proper medical advice and following the rules specified by the IISA
