The Swallows & Amazons Swim

PeelIsle

The Swallows & Amazons Swim has come about due to us receiving lots of requests for a shorter event from swimmers who felt they might not be able to complete the whole Coniston End-2-End swim.

The Swallows & Amazons Swim will be running alongside the SYS Coniston End-2-End event on Saturday 18th July 2015.

Starting from the Brown Howe car park at the south-east end of Lake Coniston, the Swallows & Amazons Swim is a 1.5km swim across the lake, and around Peel Island – made famous by the children’s novel “Swallows and Amazons” – and into the jetty at Dodgson Wood.

Coniston is the third largest of the Lake Districts’ sixteen lakes. In length it is approximately 5.25 miles/8.45km long, and at its’ deepest point is 184ft/56m deep.

This swim is ideal for those new to open water events.  Swimmers are encouraged to wear wetsuits for this swim – but if a swimmer has experience of swimming in “skins” (Channel Swim rules) they just need to talk to us before the event.

The SYS team will be in the Lake District over the weekend of the swim – if you are hoping to be one of our Coniston swimmers we would recommend that you arrive in the Lakes on the Friday before the swim as we will be making a very early start on the Saturday!  We hope too, that you can stay through to the Saturday evening when we usually have a celebratory meal together.
