Ice Mile Qualifiers…
got underway today with nine swimmers completing their 7ºC, 1600m swim in glorious icy sunshine.
Carol Lord, Izzy Fisher, Graeme Flitcroft, Paul Nicholson, Charlotte Tudberry – Maider, Jacqui Hargrave, Janice Taylor, Alice Goodridge all completed their qualifying swims this morning and are now ready to train towards their ultimate ice mile goal. The wonderful Catherine Atkinson achieved a personal best of 1200m in her first winter season today, making us all really proud of her focused determination, GB championships sprint medals are firmly in our mind for her.
They were joined by our regular winter swim club members who are all doing really well given the 4ºC air temperature and icy overnight conditions ( sadly we missed the snow). Erin and Jess are braving the lowest temperatures they’ve ever swum in, and at 16 years old are both doing amazingly well.
Water safety was overseen by two boat crews, Ray Smith & Chris Greenwood, Mike Bullivant and Paul Holmes, thanks guys superb job.
Lets just hope Ray moored up!

Recovery team as always were amazing but missing the birthday girl Beth, so Ally, Angela, Kayla Jane, Jess’s Mum and Fiona stepped in and made sure everyone re warmed nice and steadily with hot chocolate and large amounts of cake ( even the secret stash smuggled in by Chris Hill that didn’t go unnoticed, like i’d miss a cake guys). Thank you all, you make these sessions possible and we’re all very grateful.
