We are delighted to announce that from April 2026 we will be providing the opportunity to join us on the STA’s Outdoor Emergency First Aid Course.
This exciting addition to the courses on offer with SYS will be delivered by our new Tutor Phil Raymond.
Phil brings a whole new range of skills and experience with him which will make the courses fun and enjoyable whilst giving you the knowledge and confidence to deal with emergencies.
In Phil’s own words and overlooking the fact he mentioned the S word …..
” I am a former police officer serving with Hampshire Constabulary for 27 years, retiring as an Inspector. Most of my service was in uniform, including Roads Policing, response and neighbourhood roles. I also spent time as a Detective.
I hold a FREC 4 qualification and have lots of experience in the pre-hospital environment. I have been a Community First Responder for many years, both for the South Central Ambulance Service and currently for LIVES on behalf of East Midlands Ambulance Service. I also work as an Event Medic. As well as enabling me to serve the local community this also allows me to increase my patient contact and to keep up to date with current medical practice.
During the COVID pandemic, as a member of the Lowland Rescue medical team I was able to volunteer as a vaccine giver at a vaccination centre in Southampton. I also led a small team of police officers and staff when we volunteered to assist the Southampton General Intensive Care Unit as a proning team.
I am also an experienced outdoor instructor. I have been a qualified Mountain Leader since 2017 and have lots of experience leading groups in the outdoors. I am also a keen winter mountaineer.
In my spare time I enjoy sprint triathlons, swimming, surfing and stand-up paddle boarding.”
The courses will be available to book at the beginning of April and cost £95.00pp
