With Storm Darragh looming in on us there was a planned panic on Thursday evening to rewrite all of the weekends schedules in order to get the dips, qualifiers and ice miles completed on Friday, the last day before the winds closed in at this years Scottish Winter Swim Camp at Loch Morlich.
The Loch and the Cairngorms didn’t let us down, the conditions on Friday were absolutely perfect, flat calm, 3.8ºC water temperature and perfect visibility. There was even a light dusting of snow on the mountains offering us a stunning backdrop.
Subject to ratification we oversaw 12 successful ice miles and 10 successful qualifying swims, 24 swimmers who had a team of 19 amazing event crew around them to oversee their safety, it was without doubt the busiest ice mile session we have ever facilitated. The day was broken up nicely with what we can only describe as the happiest group of dippers we’ve ever seen, you’ll see the photos below, no prizes for guessing which dippers caused the biggest chuckles
A few big thank you’s to everyone that attended, the SYS crew that made it possible both at the camp and at home , Kat who catered for 60 hungry swimmers and crew (Christmas dinner was epic), Corrie for battling through illness to make sure we had an event Dr, the awesome guest speakers this year, Ben Watts, Catherine Pendleton, Andy Butler and the indomitable Ray Smith, not forgetting Alistair who played the bagpipes and piped in Saturday evenings meal.
In addition we would also like to thank, Alice Goodridge for helping us with a Plan B, John at Loch Insh for offering to open up on Saturday night ( sadly the weather had other ideas) Dawn at Kitbrix for making sure we had our event bags in time and Cairngorms Lodge Hostel for providing us with an amazing location to host the event.
Here’s a few of this years pics, we hope you enjoy them as much as we do
