Introduction to Open Water Racing – ITOWR Course

So, you’ve signed up for a triathlon or open water swimming event – and you’ve never been in an open water race before?  The iTOWR course is what you need…

Swimyourswim’s Introduction To Open Water Swimming Course is the sister course to our very successful iTOWS course which is designed to transition swimmers from the pool to open water.  (If you are new to open water swimming we recommend the iTOWS course as your first step… Ed.)

The iTOWR course aims at giving you the skills and confidence you will need to enter, and complete, your first (or second…) open water event.

We will teach you how to start your race well, giving you hands-on coaching in beach starts, deep water starts and pontoon starts*.

We will coach you in race strategy, sighting and positioning, alongside giving you a number of techniques for manoeuvring around buoys and course markers.

The iTOWR course leaders will provide you with experiences that mimmick race conditions and teach you how to draft (and thus save energy), overtake, pace your race and ultimately finish well – hopefully with a smile on your face!

Our coaches have a vast experience of open water competition swims, with experience of triathlons (sprint, olympic and ironman distances), open water races and marathon swim challenges in both fresh-water and sea.

You can view the whole iTOWR course info here.

The iTOWR course will be running at the following venues:

Hatfield Outdoor Activity Centre, Doncaster – on Thursday 9th May 2019

and Wednesday 15th May at Thrybergh Country Park, Rotherham

The iTOWR course costs £30 which includes your swim fee.  To book onto the iTOWR course simply follow this link to our EVENT REGISTRATION PAGE and choose the venue and date of your liking from the calendar.
