Wendy Figures – Ice Miler!

wendyfiguresWe are pleased to announce that YOS and Swimyourswim member WENDY FIGURES has had her Ice Mile attempt confirmed by the IISA board, completing her ice mile attempt in 35 minutes and 27 seconds, and becoming the 122nd Ice Miler in the world!

Last Saturday afternoon was an anxious two hour wait for the temperature to fall within the accepted range (5° or below), but eventually all systems were go for her attempt!

Once the temperature was reached and we were good to go Wendy set off at her usual blistering pace and maintained it right up to the last 100 metres when the cold began to take its toll. After a good deal of positive encouragement from the support crew and Wendy’s friends and fellow club members she carried on and virtually swam up the ramp to make her exit.

Wendys recovery was hard (aren’t they all? Ed.) and we discovered that she doesn’t like being fed chocolate, we had to check twice to make sure Michelle Louise Millard (Ice Miler 115) hadn’t switched places with Wendy as they both share a dislike of chocolate whilst in recovery.

This is Wendy’s second massive achievement for the club already this year as she became a British Champion at the ChillSwim event last month.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped today, your support both for the club and for the swimmers has been humbling, warm waters ahead and a fantastic summer season to look forward too.

Congratulations Wendy from everyone at YOS and Swimyourswim.
